To quickly access health information from your website's browser, download Rheumatoid arthritis I am now 51 years old and was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis when I was 41. Once diagnosed and having found a good rheumatologist in the Los Angeles area, I began the journey of finding the right combination of drugs to help my condition. It took about 10 or 11 months before I felt really well and functional again. Initially, I was prescribed Plaquenil, Azulfadine and Methotrexate (which made nauseous over a period of time and gave me sores on the roof of my mouth). Eventually, I refused to take the Methotrexate, as I was feeling ill for several days afterward. I now take Arava and Azulfadine on a daily basis, along with an intravenous treatment of Remicade every six weeks. This works much better. I no longer have swollen, hot joints and am no longer in pain. I do, however, wonder what all these drugs are doing to my insides and what affect they will have in the future. October 2008
